The visors for both Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie bodies continue to be the focus. Riveting the vision slit panels into the plate visor fronts, riveting the machined studding for the various other internal fittings. Fabricating and repairing the vision block holders. These are all ready awaiting new components to allow them to be fitted together for the final time. The head protection cushions on the vision block retainers will need to be made by our specialist.
We have started on the fenders for both the 2 Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie and the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie. The lead image shows the new fender supports – a mirror image of the original repaired fender supports in the background. There are marked differences between these which will be drawn up for Inside track publication shortly.
The fuel tank supports both base and upper have been removed and are currently being attended to. One full set of lower supports survived for the Sd.Kfz.223 of TWC so we will be able to fabricate exact copies for our example. The upper supports survived in our Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie so will provide a good pattern for the uppers sections of the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie armoured cars.
The rear cross member of the Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie is quite complicated but is now also being fabricated. We hope this will be complete some time next week. The fuel tanks for this and the other le.Pz.Sp.Wg. are now under way. The outlet pipes for the reserve and main tanks have been made and will be delivered to the specialist making the tanks. Our recorded drawings have proven to be very accurate through the process and we have had to make only one change to the specification.
