The week was made quite difficult by the new COVID 19 lockdown announcement. The outcome of the announcement is that a number of our team will be furloughed or working from home. The rest of the team will be fully engaged here in the Machining/Assembly Workshop. The engine for the Sd.Kfz.223 3 Serie is well underway. We are currently focussing on gathering in original cylinder heads to replace all of the bad condition items in stock. The eventual arrival of the newly cast authentic examples will provide an extra but probably no longer needed insurance policy. The fixing for the starter motor on the engine block is being attended to.
Level gauges for the fuel tanks have been put out for quote for them to be manufactured. Drawings for the special water taps for the cooling system have also been put out for quote to be 3D printed. These will provide the cooling system taps for the Sd.Kfz.223 3 Serie, the Sd.Kfz.222 4 Serie and the Sd.Kfz.262 5 Serie.
The oil cooler drawings for the Sd.Kfz.223 3 Serie, Sd.Kfz.222 4 Serie and Sd.Kfz.223 4 Serie have been completed and put out for quotes from specialists. The fuel tank drawings for all 4 armoured cars including the Sd.Kfz.261 5 Serie are complete and are planned now for fabrication.
Research continues at a pace on the internal fittings for the Sd.Kfz.222 4 Serie and Sd.Kfz.223 4 Serie. Special focus is currently on the design and position of grenade racks. For more on the subject please refer to Inside Track for upcoming articles on the subject.
