The Fahrgestell for the Sd.Kfz 223 3 Serie is coming together very well. We are currently engaged in fitting the chassis internals – prop shaft, brake and steering shafts. The brake line and associated sleeves have been successfully researched and a suitable candidate has been located to assemble the brake lines with the associated semi flexible ducting, rubber bellows, original ends to deliver an authentic but new and safe brake line assembly. The suspension fittings are being assessed and cleaned currently. We aim to do all shock absorbers and arms including bushes together for both the Sd.Kfz.222 and Sd.Kfz. 223 concurrently but will order all required parts next week. The wheel stations bearings are now all fitted. The brake drums have not yet been skimmed but will sent off shortly.
The Sd.Kfz.222 turret is coming together. The missing detail is being mapped. We have recorded much of the required detail from the surviving examples. We will have to make a number of return visits to ensure everything with our 4 Serie turret is perfect despite the fact that all survivors are 5 Serie examples. The turret journey is being covered in our online magazine Inside Track.
Another Sd.Kfz 223 chassis is in hand and will be sent off for chemical stripping later next week. Once it returns clean we will be able to take a clear view of the condition of the chassis to see what remedial treatment is required. Watch this week’s Facebook posting to see the chassis wishbones being removed.
