Work continues on the Sd.Kfz 223 3 Serie. The doors have been identified. We are still awaiting the hinges for the doors and rear engine bay. The interior armoured hull fitting bases are being cleaned out and replaced where necessary. The armoured hull has been reassembled. The round deflector strips have been located and fitted to the roof of the crew cabin. The bases for the fuel tanks are being fabricated as we speak. The original items are in terrible condition and cannot be saved. These will be completed next week. The work on recovering the mesh under the turret at the rear of the crew cabin has stopoped pending more attention as this requires newly fabricated mesh strips and repair on part of the frame. This will take place next week.
The wire frame drawings essential for the reassembly of the Sd.Kfz 222 4 Serie hull are being completed. We have had a number of problems with the variance in individual plate sizes between hulls. This has made for a difficult task as the plates are from a number of different le.Pz.Sp.Wgn and have to be gently teased back into union with the others. We are waiting for a number of parts (yet to come) which will be grafted into the hull when this project starts which we expect to take place in January.
The attached picture of the hinges (ex door hinges) required for the next two armoured cars – the Sd.Kfz 222 4 Serie Ausf A and Sd.Kfz 261 5 Serie Ausf B. We have been busy collecting these right up to now. Some are required for future projects and those are always on the list. Nothing like an original hinge.
