Most of our attention this week was focussed on the Sd.Kfz 223 Ausf.A funkwagen. The armour panels had to be cleaned up and cut where they were being replaced by panels from donor vehicle sheets. various sheets had to be joined where the original sheets had been cut and damaged. We are fortunate in that we have gathered a significant quantity of original 8mm and 5.5mm armour panels over the past 25 years. These are now coming into use. The results are truly spectacular. The body for the Sd.Kfz 223 is taking shape.
The Sd.Kfz 261 chassis is now complete. All the remedial work which was still outstanding at the beginning of the week is now behind us. The chassis will be taken for dipping and coating next week to ensure any residual rust is removed and the chassis coating provides protection for years to come. This is not strictly correct but is essential in our opinion given the poor state the chassis has come from to where it is now.
The Zundapp KS750 is experiencing slight problems with starting and idling. We have determined that this is due to a faulty magneto which has degraded over time. This is being sent to a specialist next week to be rewound and overhauled.
