The turret ring for the Schutzschild turret for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie was collected this week. The team lost no time in spot welding the inner ring to the newly machined slot in the main turret ring. This will be fully welded next week.
Drawings for the bin specific to this Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie have been completed and the correct hinges secured for the project. This main stowage bin is quite different to that required by our Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie. These differences and details are to be published in forthcoming Inside Track articles.
The floor details incorporating the specific floor for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie are now ready for the team to fabricate. This has taken many weeks of research and measurement using all of the images and surviving artefacts in our archives.
The front bumper is now very close to completion and only requires attention to the ends and curves in the lengths. This is quite fortunately the same bumper design needed for our Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie projects. Everything is in hand for the two examples to be made with experience and detail now in hand.
This week’s Inside Track articles covers additional key differences in the 2cm gun mount pedestal between the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie and Sd.Kfz.222 5.Serie. Images of these differences are provided for the reader.
