Blasting and priming all of the original (paint free) components for the exterior of the Sd.Kfz. 222 4.Serie armoured car, such as the grenade mesh cover (left hand side), firewall components frame, mesh and left and right panels all primed and ready to fit. The rear of the Aufbau (armoured body) was collected from the blasters including the floor panels. These are already primed and now require a top coat. The front Aufbau body section and Schutzshild turret were dropped off at the same time for collection next week.
The full quantity of top coat paint required for the exterior and interior has been ordered and will be ready for collection on Monday. Dunkelgrau (dark gray) interior and exterior finish and early ivory for the forward crew cabin.
The Horch 3.5 litre V8 engine has been fitted to the chassis and all of the other related assembly such as the oil cooler, fan radiator and throttle linkage are in focus. The fuel tanks were trial fitted this week and were collected late Friday to finally assemble into the engine bay next week. (see lead image)
The armoured car’s engine bay interior (within the body) has now received its final paint top coat treatment. There are a small number of areas which will be provided with additional treatment when the new paint is collected.
The instrument panels are underway. The CNC machine centre wood unit is working in between the welding team’s time to allow the separate panel layers to be completed. This should be done next week.
