The long awaited engine rebuild of the Horch 3.5 litre V8 for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie is now underway. The white metalling and boring/honing of the block completed our team is now on to the engine build. The fuel tanks have been completed and will be collected next week. The drivers’ seats are now underway. We spend some time this week with the wood crafter to determine design detail.
The wiring loom for the TWC Sd.Kfz.233 is nearly finished. One of the remaining tasks is the fabric sheath. The engine mount block has now been completed. This was made of wood and has been faithfully reproduced using our newly acquired CNC machine. The results can be see in the attached image. This has yet to be separated from the base block and cleaned up. That will be ready for fitting on Monday.
The last piece of the puzzle for the dynamo clamp fitted to the gearbox is now in place. The Gurtkasten (rectangular MG34 ammunition belt container) frames are being assembled for the TWC Sd.Kfz.223. This is a vehicle which had an extended operational life incorporating upgrades over the years.
