The wiring from the loom into the fuse boxes fitted to the steering column is done. The wiring from the fuse boxes is done and readied to be fitted to the instruments and lamps. We need to fit new 12V bulbs to the various Kontrollampen (indicator lights) details of which were covered in a recent Inside Track article. The barrels and locking scythes (shaped) for each instrument have been assembly fitted. A small amount of paint dressing is required around the full beam Kontrollampen.
The two exhaust mufflers are now fabricated to original specification. The internal baffles and special tube are in place awaiting the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie exhaust pipe shape determination for the fabrication process. The headlamps have been fitted and wired up. We are working on the dimmer switch assembly fitting. The one shot lubrication pump fitting is also in focus. This is different to that of the 4.Serie and will be faithfully crafted to how it was all those years ago.
Fuel tank depth sensors fitted awaiting the application of sealant next week. They will thereafter be primed and painted. Interior parts have been painted as required. The parts still retaining original paint have been cleaned up waiting for fitting.
The inside face of the doors have been reunited with all of their fittings – handles, locks, gas mask tube etc ready to be bolted on the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. We will leave them off for now given they make an already cramped vehicle even more difficult to navigate.
The Horch 3.5 litre V8 has had its oil pump and sieve fitted to the sump. The cylinder head gaskets are with us now. They will be fitted next week and the engine will run for the first time in 85 years
Have a great weekend from all of here at the Weald Foundation
