The Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie is pressing on. The engine is set to run next week, small tasks such as fitting the range of small taps into the side of the block and waterways remains. The seat for the gunner has been prepared for the upholsterer who is currently working on the gaiters for the controls in the crew cabin such as gear stick, hand brake etc.
The fuel tanks have been readied to be fitted to the interior of the engine bay. We are fitting the recently acquired original fuel tank to the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. The story and discovery behind this is this week’s Inside Track article. We have also secured a number of period punch and die kits for the numbers and text found on the numerous plaques fitted to the interior of both the crew cabin and engine bay.
The instrument panel has now been fitted with all of its instruments. These are all original and correct for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. Some touching up of the forward area of the crew cabin will be completed next week now that the wiring and fitting is complete.
Our counterparts have not let us down. We are in pretty good shape for the launch of this armoured car on June 22nd of this year. We are cautiously looking forward to this date.
