Our work this week involved not only our research guys, a bit of luck and painstaking gathering of components for our armoured car projects. Not just the newly reembarked Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie project but the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie as well. The search for the components for the chassis of the Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie resulted in a chance discovery of a key component of the remote engine hatch mechanism for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. This device is described in Part 1 of the subject in Inside Track. We hope to show the fitted device in Part 2 of this article.
The Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie chassis was progressing well prior to a key team member taking a few days vacation. We are looking forward to continued progress as soon as he is back. All of the required chassis parts have been identified and set aside for painting once he has returned.
The research guys have emerged with a real breakthrough in the form of detail on the operation of the radio equipment of the Sd.Kfz.223. Not only does this provide detail on the operation of the frame antenna – position of the MG34 but also the assembly of the 4 pole antenna extension, how it is fitted and during assembly.
