One of our final tasks in completing the external facing armoured body of the Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie is safely bringing back the badly bent and shattered visor panel back to life. This had obviously suffered a catastrophic end to its operational life given how bent and fragmented it was. This has slowly been pieced together over the course of a few days and is now facing the next task – the interior visor retainer form. A 2 level formed device welded to the interior armour plate is being matched to what remains of the original from another Sd.Kfz.261!
The various images and video clips we have been posting in social media have kept people up date with the suspension components being machined in our workshops. This work will continue for some time given that we have a number of various components that were missing from our very rare Sd.Kfz.261 when it was discovered all those years ago pulled from its watery grave.
More rare components have been arriving over the week. The third 3kg Ladung example has been examined for our next steps under the beady eye of our conservation specialist. This has been put to one side awaiting his attention.
We have been reviewing our original 5.Serie large side bin to restore back to press back into service with our Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie. This will need a lot of attention to allow for a full recovery.
Have a good weekend everyone.
