Sd.Kfz.261 suspension assembly takes shape, making room for new arrival

Bothe the Fabrication hall and the Machining Final Assembly Hall are flat out in providing the fittings to allow for the assembly of the suspension units for the Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie. This is the first time we have worked on a 5.Serie or Ausf.B chassis so we are learning things as we progress. This is a completely different chassis but our experience with the other 3 Ausf.A chassis has put us in good shape in our approach to the task.

The large Querlenker wishbones are being fitted (see image below). You will remember the copper coated axle pins that fit though the metal rubber bushes in each side of these 4 large lower wishbones. Their paths have been reamed very carefully to allow for a good fit. All of the shock absorbers are now in hand. The problem we have just encountered is that we need a set of other fittings for the 2 rear wishbone suspension assemblies. The missing 3 have been ordered. The delivery time we are waiting on from our counterpart.

The Sd.Kfz.223 of the TWC has been painted internally with the final treatment being the application of the forward crew cabin area top coat – the early darker version of Elfenbein ivory.

Space has been cleared for the new arrival on Tuesday. A vehicle we have waited a long time for. More about that later.

Have a good weekend!!
