Black Sea StuG, 3 Serie Sd.Kfz 223, 4 Serie Sd.Kfz 222 and 1 Ton Zugmaschine

The work to remove the Zimmerit anti magnetic paste from the rear deck and crew cabin wall continues. This will finish today to follow by a coating of red oxide . Next week a top coat will be applied from paint remaining from the initial restoration. Both spare road wheels , barrel cleaning rods and the antenna and armoured air intake shrouds will be put back into position once more.

The line drawings for the 3 Serie Sd.Kfz 223 have now been broken down into individual panels. These are now being compared to the original panels and will be altered depending on the size of the originals once they have been cleaned up.

The 4 Serie Sd.Kfz 222 fenders are in focus at present. We have an example to use as a pattern and are generating the detail using this and other archive material including the 4 Serie aufbau at the US Cavalry and Armor collection at Fort Benning.

Our ‘Demag’ 1 ton zugmaschine has a problem with modern fuel additives. The jets in the carburettor are clogging up after 2 weeks of disuse. We are putting a plan in place now to start every machine every week to avoid the problem provided courtesy of ethanol. We initially thought this was the fault of the fuel pump which was stripped and rebuilt. We tested an electrical pump to confirm if it was the pump. It was not. Then the carburettor jets were removed and cleaned – success.
