Progress on the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie armoured car has been good this week. The left hand firewall section is complete and primed and the original right hand example requires blasting and a little repair (see below). These are different for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie relative to the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie and have been researched to understand the individual fittings. The correct paint treatment has been determined for the interior and the paint has been ordered to suit. As each component is readied they will be primed and painted before being assembly fitted into the interior.
The Doppeltrommel double drum magazines for the MG 34 on the pedestal mount have been subjected to an in depth process involving rust removal and patina protection. (See one of them within the process in the lead image). The results are quite remarkable. The rather rough looking Doppeltrommel magazines have been transformed into impressive transformed examples not only through by being cleaned but also with the replacement of the missing black leather straps. One other component is being made and will be fitted to those missing them. Stand by….
The MG 34 pedestal mount which supports the Schutzschild turret is going well. Two major components for the elevation of the gun and the seat are underway in the machine shop here. The engine components have been gathered, photographed and laid out in cases in readiness for the restoration process to begin. The windscreen components are being assembled after a lengthy research effort. The wipers and handles are being sorted today.
