Half armoured hull now ready, key chassis components underway for Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie

The painstaking process of straightening the original armour panels over many hours is yielding results. The original body of our Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie chassis is starting to look the part. Next is the front armoured hull. The plan is to make a large template to be able to fit the various panels together. Cut those to fit and remedy the small sections that are missing. We have all the drawings to allow for this but distortions and small differences in original panels always keep life interesting.

In parallel to this work continues on the chassis components for the Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie. The shock absorbers have been sourced. The spring bases are being machined. A pattern is underway for the spring bases which proven successful will allow us to machine these required components directly using our 4 axis CNC mill. Quite exciting…

Planning and filming more documentaries this week. One of them covers the research and archive process behind our restoration projects. How each project provides different challenges and the process we follow once we have decided we have the information to hand that is required. The other filming is for the South African Reconnaissance Car MKI and Mk II. This will set the stage for our spectacular early Mk III and late Mk III projects – an ME and an MFF example.

Have a good weekend
