The Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie project is moving forward at quite a pace. The armoured body was completed last week. The very large roof is now fitted to the armoured body. This is much larger than the roof fitted to either the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie or the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie.
The original and refurbished suspension components and chassis have now received their correct top coat. The weather was very kind to us today to allow all of this timely painting – just after the rain stopped before midday. The chassis and suspension components will be stowed away safely awaiting the other suspension components reaching the same stage. Our machinists continue to work away at the missing components with very little now remaining to achieve a completed set.
The shock absorbers have finally been tracked down. They (8 in total) will be introduced into the suspension assemblies shortly once the springs are blasted and painted.
We have just managed to acquire 2 additional radios for our Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie and the Sd.Kfz.250/3 Ausf.B. This will ensure we are now complete in the search for the main radio equipment for these 2 vehicles. We will of course require some additional ancillaries for these – cable etc. That can come later.
