A huge effort went in this week to capitalise on the success we had last week recovering the mesh for our Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. This effort was to push straight on in creating an accurate example for the TWC Sd.Kfz.223. This is almost finished but for the circular radiator aperture and the hatches to be fitted on either side for the fuel tank access. The TWC radiator will have to be fitted before the radiator hole is let into the mesh.
Elsewhere the Schutzschild turret guides for the TWC Sd.Kfz.223 have been completed bar the roller bearings. The examples for our Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie are under way now and should be completed early next week. The radiator mount fittings have been machined and fitted (metal and rubber) for both the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie of the Weald Foundation and the TWC.
Our own mesh screen which was finally restored last week has spent the last 5 days being gently stripped of all of the 80+ years of rust in an electrolysis bath. This has worked very well and continues to remove rust day after day. We are hoping to clean the mesh off and give it the first coat of red oxide to prevent and return of the rust.
The instrument panel for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie has finally been identified after many months of research. This item has been pressed and is ready for the fitting of the various clamps and fittings prior to painting and instruments. This research and detail has been covered extensively in the latest Inside Track article on the subject this week.
The MG pedestal mount is slowly materialising before our eyes. Ensuring all of the original components marry up with new accurate counterparts is painstaking but will result in a fine end result.
We managed to secure another correct period dimmer switch and set of windscreen wiper blades and arms. The period windscreen wiper assemblies will require a little attention before they can be used for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie.
Have a good weekend
