The Sd.kfz.222 4.Serie has been the beneficiary of the non appearance of the auto electrician. This was not planned but the additional time has provided us with a few more days to nail down outstanding tasks. Unfortunately the more you look the more you find – things to do. This week has seen a complete transformation of the jack which had spent the past 80 years buried in wet European soil. Reconstructive surgery was required on the internal drive pinion which had corroded away. A thorough sand blasting, a little welding, primer paint and we are now awaiting the final top coat. The stowage brackets are being fabricated for the jack and will be completed today.
The batteries for all of the armoured cars are no longer available. The size and length combination is not provided by the classic car service industry so we have taken steps to resolve this problem once and for all.
The communications equipment for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie is being fitted. The research into the correct equipment required for this armoured car and its specific assembly date has concluded and is published in this week’s Inside Track journal. We will be following up with images once everything is fitted within Inside Track in due course.
