For those who might not have been paying close attention, our Sd.Kfz.223 (Ausf.A) 3rd Series project may seem like it has taken several steps backwards, but rest assured, that is not the case.
This week’s main focus has been dismantling the vehicle in preparation for sandblasting and priming. The rear of the body has already been removed and sent, expected to return to us within a few days. The team is currently preparing the front to be sent, once the rear is returned.
Additional tasks were accomplished this week, including the fabrication and installation of jack brackets on the rear fender. Holders for the top mesh have been fabricated and fitted, allowing the mesh to finally sit in place correctly during our tests.
Progress on the ‘Schutzschild’ has continued, with the slot protector also being completed this week. It’s quite an intricate piece and not straightforward, given that earlier series differ from later upgraded versions.
Not only was the rear body blasted, but as several components were removed, the team seized the opportunity to sandblast them in our workshop and have them painted as well. This includes the large storage box and the fenders.
Stay tuned for more updates on our Sd.Kfz.223 restoration and have a great weekend.
