Most of the week was spent on planning and starting the fabrication processing the front fenders for the Sd.Kfz.222. We have not inserted the front stowage bins within the front fenders until the fenders are aligned to an acceptable level against the hull. Main image shows a team member adjusting the right fender. A lot of work required still for both.
Alongside this the key component of the Sockel gun mount – the pedestal – for the KwK.38 is now back from the blasters together with various other related parts. The holes in the pedestal will be drilled and tapped next week to clear old blockages which are now visible. The base will be machined and prepared to be reunited with its base.
The floor is being installed within the armoured car. There is no existing Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie for us to record so we are having to work much harder to establish the size of the various plates.
Next week will see the progression of the gun mount, retrieval of the turret ring for the Sd.Kfz.222, collection of castings for the visor fittings. The wooden dashboard is currently being fitted with the various instrumentation and controls, lights etc to prepare for final machining of these complicated instrument panels.
Have a good weekend!!
