The floor is now fully fitted to the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie. The additional fittings for the bellows around the gear lever, handbrake and other components will be fitted at the same time as the bellows. They will all have to be removed again to be blasted and primed. The holder for 4 ammunition boxes for the MG34 are now fitted to both sides of the interior. This process has allowed us to plot the floors accurately for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie despite the different MG Lafette fitted to the Sd.Kfz.223. This will be now be an easier floor to fit than the Sd.Kfz.222.
The Sockel gun mount for the 2cm KwK 38 in the Sd.Kfz.222 is now being reassembled. This will be refitted to the interior when it is fully reassembled and the interior is also fully fitted. It takes up too much room to fit now given the amount of other fittings still to go onto the cabin crew walls and interior.
The driver’s seat base and last single holder for the 5 magazine container for the Sd.Kfz.222 have now been correctly plotted and marked for final fitting. The write up for these previously unknown details have now been written up in this week’s Inside Track.
The Sd.Kfz.222 turret Schutzschild was fitted early on in the week and the process of lining up the forward and rear supports is now fully on stream. The detail behind these very complicated mechanisms will be written up in Inside Track shortly.
The forward battery frame is now installed to the front right of the driver’s position in the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie. A ‘correct’ period battery needs to be ordered in readiness for the vehicle’s launch.
