The wood for the instrument panel is now all in hand and the planing of the material to the exact thicknesses has begun. Each wooden section will then be machined individually and fitted together prior to the instrument fitting stage.
The pedestal gun mount Sockel is now fully assembled. This has been quite the process in getting original parts from a number of sources to fit and work! All have been provided a final top coat paint treatment. There are a few parts which require fitting which are crew related stowage fittings etc.
The diver’s seat frame, single ammunition bin (5 magazines) stowage rack has also been fabricated. There are articles detailing the search and conclusions for information revealing the exact position of this box and the make up of the seat base in Inside Track our magazine.
Work has now begun on the turret Schutzschild supports. A short video was posted on Facebook on the start of this process – welding the components together prior to machining – which has started today. Three more of these supports will need to be made for a full contingent.
Mapping of the interior of the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie is continuing. Once the turret Schutzschild supports are completed we will begin on completion of the interior.
