The air filter bodies for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie, Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie, Sd.Kfz.223 4.Serie have now been completed. These will require a top coat of the correct colour. This will be covered in a forthcoming Inside Track article in due course. The material for the air filter cartridges is in hand and will soon be fitted into the program. A new clutch operating rod has been machined and painted in readiness for fitting to the Sd.Kfz.223 4.Serie. Investment castings are now ready for collection – these are toggles for the gear change operation fitted to the gear selector and gearbox.
The fan stands for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie and Sd.Kfz.223 4.Serie have been completed this week together with the fitting of the new oil coolers. (see main picture)
The visors for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie armoured hulls are being reassembled. All the fittings required are being cleaned, repaired and painted in the process. A full expose of the plate visors and their fittings will follow in Inside Track when we are in a position to be able to lay all the restored constituent components out. The visors are handed and very different to the later cast visors of the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie and Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie.
Work proceeds on the drawings needed for the second Jagdpanther.
The Radpanzer armoured hub covers have been fitted to our Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie pending the final top coat of paint to the rims – to match the ultimate paint dressing for the completed vehicle.
More Pak 43 items have been secured this week. The list of outstanding parts we require is now significantly shorter.
Research continues on the width indicators required for our le.Pz.Sp.Wg. This week saw the breakthrough in the detail for the width indicator required for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. Next week will see the continuation of the research into the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie width indicator. Two original examples have recently been secured by the Foundation which have significantly aided us in our research in this area and will provide us with original examples to fit the finished vehicles.
