Significant and ultimately conclusive research into the air filter design for the Luftfilter air filters required for the Sd.Kfz 222 4 Serie, Sd.Kfz 223 3 Serie, Sd.Kfz.223 4 Serie was completed this week. Part of the reconstructive surgery was started last week with the workshop team and continued this week (see main image – two original bodies plus one new). All of the various versions of the Air filter have been identified and written up in this week’s Inside Track. More detail will be forthcoming over the coming weeks on the Luftfilter in Inside Track as the air filters near completion.
Conservation work on the Sd.Kfz.222 4 Serie chassis continued for the whole week. The work remaining now are the hubs and backplates for 3 wheel stations and two cross members. Then re-assembly……..
Our participation in the auction of the renowned collector Andre Becker is also covered in this week’s Inside Track – providing an overall summary with some detail on the auction itself. We had a successful auction and provide an insight with images into the very rare items we secured on the day.
We dropped off the second Jagdpanther gearbox at the dipping firm on Thursday to allow it to be fully cleaned of rust. This will enable us to strip it down with a little less stress later this month. Planning a casting run of the carburettor air inlet manifold – we require 4 – is taking the focus of one of our team. The hard work has been done (the drawings) now for how to replicate this design in aluminium – 3D print or pattern and cast? That is the question.
Gaskets are being made for the Horch 3.5 liter V8 engines. Our first attempt was an experiment which illuminated a better course for the future gaskets.
