The angled steering hub for the Sd.Kfz.223 4.Serie has been fully assembled. The water pump impeller is being recued at the same time. This had been sledged from above with a hammer and the impeller shaft is being machined afresh. The lower steering shaft will have to be attended to as the tapered spline has been cut in from the wrong direction. The Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie angled steering hub is also being attended to.
The Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie chassis conservation attention is on the hubs and backplates. The brake drums have all been conserved – the paint above the original layer has been carefully removed. The wheel stations – hub, backplate, bearings etc are being disassembled. New replacement bearings are now to be ordered. Each hub and backplate will be reassembled with the new bearings already fitted.
More of the radio fittings have been arriving this week. We will be announcing a breakthrough in this area soon.
Original brackets for the oil filter for the Sd.Kfz 222 4.Serie, Sd.Kfz 223 3.Serie, Sd.Kfz. 223 4.Serie arrived this week. They have had gentle attention to straighten them back to their original shape. The detail of these brackets in comparison to modern copies is the subject of one this week’s Inside Track articles.
