The air filters for the Sd.Kfz 222 4 Serie, Sd.Kfz 223 3 Serie and Sd.Kfz. 223 4 Serie are slowly nearing their completion. There have been a few small distractions but the momentum is strong. We have been awaiting a 60mm hole saw as our older example was tired. This has arrived so we should be able to move to complete the main bodies today. Cartridges will start next week with the mesh already in hand.
The Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie bodies are being worked on. The focus are the plate visors. We have gathered all of our original hinges, visors and fittings together to clear the road ahead. The components are being cleaned and prepared for fitting and any small repair needed. Some of the visor levers are particularly corroded beyond repair and will need to be replaced. Springs need to be drawn and ordered.
The doors for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie are being finished. All that is now required other than a top coat are the 2-springs set vertically above each other on the driver’s door. These have yet to be drawn and sent to a spring maker. The gearbox has been fitted and the drive shafts connected up to the gearbox (see main image). The stays have been blasted and top coated and will be fitted next week.
The springs for the Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie have been analysed and drawn with the help of our Norwegian friend. The front springs are markedly different. These will be put into process next week now that the drawings are ready.
This week’s Inside Track covers the first steps of the research into the Begrenzungstange width indicators for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. This is on the road to a definitive conclusion of the correct examples required for our Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. Part 2 next week will compare the various examples in our archives. Thereafter we will move on to the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie and the Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie. A very interesting process for our researchers.
