This week’s major activity was focussed on the air filter for the 3 armoured cars. The final tricky detail was fitting all three parts – the carburettor air inlet trumpet, the air filter and the carburettor and ensure they all fitted correctly. The difficulty here is that the original line drawings have been printed on an old fashioned printing press ( as with a Roneo Duplicator machine). The original drawings have been stretched / distorted in one way through the printing process. These drawings have had to be interpreted accordingly. The air filters are now in their final path for completion. We are awaiting the spring clasp mechanisms which will be fitted to the air filters. The colour of the casings and their interiors have been determined through the use of our Electro Spectrometer. The findings of the paint analysis will be published in next week’s Inside Track publication for our Members. This week’s articles focus on the air filter design and their identification within the spare parts book using original images.
The conservation work continues on the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie chassis. The exterior work on the chassis is now complete. Two cross members have also been completed by the end of this week leaving only 3 wheel hubs and backplates yet to be done.
Terry popped in for tea and advised how best to address the set of newly acquired original oil filter brackets which needed attention. A form, a light hammer and as good as new. We look forward to having you back soon!!
Capital projects for the Weald Foundation have been determined for 2021. The 2nd display hall will be completed internally. We are awaiting quotes from contractors for this project. Next will be phase two for the new kitchen in which an oven and tiling will be fitted. Lastly space is being mooted for the waste water services and completion of the Doyle Interpretational Centre.
