A split team again this week. Half were working on the wheel hubs for the Sd.Kfz. 222 4.Serie. We are working to scrape all surface paint off the complete chassis assembly to allow the original paint – Werk Horch AG and Dunkelgrau paint finish to emerge. The hubs have now been completed and the drive shafts are under the watchful eye of the team. There does not appear to be much top coat on these parts – just red oxide. We will make a decision on what coat to finish these off with or leave them as is..
The oil brackets for the Sd.Kfz.223 4.Serie have been straightened up, blasted and dressed to match the other original fished examples we have. These will be fitted to the Funkwagen 3.5 litre V8 when it is restored. This will only take place once we have the 3.5 litre V8 of the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie behind us. The next steps on the angled steering for the Sd.Kfz.223 will be the top cover fitting (see image)
The other part of the team were busy stripping and recording our second of 3 Jagdpanther gearboxes. This work is nearing completion now with all of the gear clusters now removed. This could only be done once the differential was removed from the gearbox. A very complicated task. Not designed for maintenance or rebuild.
