We took delivery of the completed oil coolers for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie, Sd.Kfz.223 4 Serie and Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie. The Kochgeschirr Canteen Holders for the Sd.Kfz.223 4.Serie are being crafted to original specification. The original examples for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie and Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie are currently being carefully conserved and repaired where necessary. The wheel nuts for the Sd.Kfz.223 4.Serie have been machined, blasted and fitted. This le.Pz.Sp.Wg. is now on its own wheels.
Original fittings for our projects continue to flow into the Foundation. The internet has been a revelation during lock down providing the mechanism to secure many of the rare missing items for our various current and future projects. The Pak 43 has been the largest beneficiary of this period.
The gearbox for the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie has been disassembled and thoroughly inspected. The worm gears in the differential are in poor shape and will have to be replaced. We were amazed to discover a limited slip diff in one of the other spare le.Pz.Sp.Wg. gearboxes we have. This was being checked to see whether we could use any of the differential components to replace the worn examples in the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie gearbox. More of this and other discoveries/differences between the various gearboxes examined will be published in due course in Inside Track.
Renault FT accessories have been in the spotlight this week with continued breakthroughs in our research into these tanks in operation in WWI.
