The major focus this week was the Panzerwanne or body of the 4 Serie Sd.Kfz.222. The front half of the body is now almost reassembled with the roof components being tidied up and prepared to be fitted next week. The main image is of the supports for the roof of the Sd.Kfz.222. The support further back towards the turret was missing. This has been fabricated and will be fitted with the rest of the roof next week when the holes for the flush mounted tapered bolts will be drilled in the exact spots required as per the armoured roof sheet. Our research department were on the case full time this week ensuring the dimensions and fitting detail were to hand before each stage of the process. Conservation of the chassis is moving ahead slowly and steadily. This will take a few more months to complete.
A very rare speedometer for the Sd.Kfz.261 5 Serie has been secured – courtesy of P & S Dusseldorf. This now completes the instrument requirement for the dashboard of this armoured car.
The inner tubes for the 210×18 tyres for the 4 Serie Sd.Kfz.223 have been found and will be fitted hopefully next week. These were very difficult to locate given the obsolete tyre size. We will stockpile a number of these inner tubes given the quantity of tyres required for all of our armoured cars and other vehicles all used 210×18 tyres.
