Progress on the Foundation’s Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie included the completion of the central firewall section comprising the mesh and formed sheet metal base. The floor has begun. The middle part of the floor has been cut and will be fitted exactly once the side rail floor supports are in place. The gear selection lever and rod assembly are now fitted. All gears now select as required.
Much focus was spent on the mesh covering the rear crew cabin area and radiator area for the Sd.Kfz.223 3.Serie. We have the complete mesh section but it has been knocked about in the past 80 years. The left hand side of it has been recovered but the right hand side will need more work as this is very distorted.
The original Renault FT and Renault TSF tank trailer Remorque has been under focus this week confirming its pedigree as having been from the fabrication yards of Weitz in Lyon France. This is important information for us and will trigger the process of correcting the modifications and changes built into the trailer since 1918 by successive owners.
