The team is focussing almost entirely on the Sd.Kfz.223 (Ausf.A) 3.Serie which is helping the speed of this project to some degree. All the drivers’ seats are behind us now requiring wooden frames for the upholstery process. The radiator is being mounted within the body/chassis and has had several small components made to original spec to fix the radiator in position.
The Panzeraufbau mesh for the rear roof of the crew cabin and radiator area has now been completed. This was a major task with many our team involved and has taken almost a week to finally be repaired. This original component was painstakingly repaired, straightened, and fitted together once again to resemble a slightly careworn state but intact for the first time in 80+ years. One of last week’s Inside Track articles covered the process. The corrosion is being gently removed using our large tank, liquid, a chemical compound, and electricity. The Panzeraufbau mesh components are being prepared for the TWC Sd.Kfz.223. The narrow strips are being fed through the form in the press to produce the basic mesh panels.
A special delivery arrived this week. This is a canvas cover for our Sd.Kfz.222 (Ausf.A). Discussing what was offered to us and its hopeful use is covered in this week’s Inside Track. Part 2 will hopefully provide images of this cover fitted to our Sd.Kfz.222 (Ausf.A) 4.Serie. Stand by for more updates.
