Reassembly of the Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie chassis continues. This work is painstaking and the list of parts required with images is included in this week’s edition of Inside Track. The lead image is of the 4 wheel steering fitting. The original leather gaiter is alongside. The new example is too small and will be replaced with one to be made this weekend.
The radiators are now ready for collection on Monday. The shrouds are all completed and fitted as well. You will recall the fans having been cast machined and are therefore ready to be assembled in full. This work will have to wait for the time being with the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie as the gearbox has yet to be fully assembled. The outstanding seals and bearings will be ordered next week to allow completion of the task. We have decided to reassemble the differential worm and wheel set up using the original gears. This hereby ends months of a struggle for an alternative. Good news.
The exhibition hall is progressing with internal insulation and cladding being fitted to the first of 3 bays. This first bay will be finished tomorrow (Saturday). The second bay will start in a week’s time. The electrics and water have also taken a giant leap forward in this hall. The plan is to house our Empire Collection and First World War Collection in this new facility.
The charity AGM took place today. All of our trustees met to discuss 2020 results and 2021 thus far. A fruitful meeting.
Have a good weekend.
