Our teams are working steadily on 2 fronts – the first is the completion of the armoured body and the second is machining and refurbishing all components required for the suspension assembles. Both initiatives have taken a long time given the extensive work required for the body panels and the chassis. We are now emerging from the undergrowth into an area where assembly is drawing closer and closer. The armoured body seam welds are being applied to the exterior and next will be the interior of the armoured body. This will take a few days thereafter the tabs for the fenders will be fitted back the the body and thereafter the interior will be started.
The suspension axle pins for the wishbones were machined a few weeks ago and have in the interim been copper plated as per the originals we have. All we now are awaiting are the shock absorbers. It has taken an extraordinary long time to trace track replacements. They are quite small despite the size and more importantly weight of the completed Sd.Kfz.261 5.Serie.
We have completed the next documentary within our Heritage Fund range. This particular example covers our research, use and interpretation of historical documents and imagery to towards our objective of the highest level of accuracy in our restoration projects. This will be launched next week.
Enjoy the weekend
