The chassis for the SdKfz 261 is progressing well. The opposite chassis side rail is slowly taking shape but was delayed when we were asked to prepare the wishbones Querlenker for our machinist counterparts. All 4 sets of wishbones were delivered today ex the missing items. These had to be stripped down to enable the ribbed ends to be machined and new sections to be made for the two larger wishbone or Querlenker to be made. The 2 wishbones were missing from our chassis when we acquired it. More of the components for the chassis rail have been repaired and salvaged where possible to allow fitting once the chassis rail itself has been completed.
The SdKfz 261 gearbox is coming together. A few items are being machined to replace the original and slightly corroded internal parts.
The Zundapp KS750 was completed this week. We were forced to utilise the old replica fuel tap as the new replacement had a crack in it and was seeping fuel. We also replaced the old original carburettor with another original rebuilt example. Our first test run was conducted with much excitement today. Take a look at Facebook to see what happened. All the original replacement items were fitted yet the bike proved difficult to start with these changes. Peeling back the onion is the order for next week as we retrace our steps to identify what is causing the problem.
We are awaiting more information on the SARC MKIII Marmon Herrington next week to add to our growing archive. Every bit of incremental information is proving critical to our understanding of what these armoured cars are all about. We have a few years to complete the research prior to starting this exciting project. We have the small matter of completing the SdKfz 222, SdKfz 223 and SdKfz 261 before we will be able to start.
Have a great weekend..!
