The Schutzschild turret of the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie was in focus for a few days this week with 2 of our team members making continuous adjustments leading to success! The turret turns easily using the traverse wheel in the gunner’s position.
The rear seat for the interior of the Sd.Kfz.222 4.Serie Schutzschild turret has been readied. This is original and required blasting and painting. It will require an upholstered cushion which fits to the seat base. We have the details and dimensions of the cushion and its fitting mechanism and will follow up with you once it is in hand.
The complicated strapping and bracketry for the gas mask holders are now nearly complete. Leather stitching, buckles river plates is quite the task but one of the team has taken this in hand together with one of our volunteers. Excellent results.
Planning for the radio rack finish and fixing straps for the radio is currently in planning. A huge amount of research has been undertaken and will shortly resolve the question of how this strap fits and how it is made up.
Cleaning the 11 Gurtkasten cases for the MG 34 machine gun ammunition belts is continuing 3 at a time. The first results have been impressive. These will then take their place in the brackets on the left and right-hand side interior walls.
